(LOT 1866)
1915 Athletics/Braves Scorecard with a Visual Ad Featuring Ty Cobb

In 1914, Boston's "Miracle" Braves beat the powerful Philadelphia Athletics in the World Series in an astounding four-game sweep. A virtual no-name rotation cut down the mighty A's staff of Bender, Plank, Bush and Shawkey. Presented is a 1915 unmarked scorecard from the Grover, Colorado tailor, E.B. Franklin, promoting the clothier's wears with a full-body advertisement featuring "Ty Cobb – King of Ball Players". The front of the scorecard displays the 1914 World Series champion Braves in individual images along the top with the names listed in order at left. The reverse, conversely, features the American League champion A's with similar images at the top and names listed at left. Included among the Hall of Famers playing in the 1914 Fall Classic were Mgr. Connie Mack, Frank Baker, Eddie Plank, Eddie Collins, Rabbit Maranville and Johnny Evers, among others. The extraordinary 14" x 5-1/2" scorecard remains in exceptional condition, save for some off-centering from right to left. Still unmarked and unfolded, this is one of the finest that we have ever seen and the best we have ever offered at auction. A remarkably well-preserved advertising piece from a tailor from Grover, Colorado.
