(LOT 1865)
September 9, 1969 "Black Cat Game" Mets Program – Vintage Signatures of Seaver, Clendenon, Dyer & Charles PSA/DNA LOA

FAMOUS '69 BLACK CAT GAME!!! On September 9, 1969 at Shea Stadium, the NY Mets would send their ace 20-game winner Tom Seaver to the mound to face off against Chicago's 19-game winner Ferguson Jenkins. Trailing the Cubs by only 1-1/2 games in the NL East, the Mets scored two runs in the first inning. In the top of the fourth, with Billy Williams at the plate, a black cat raced onto the field, ominously gazing into the Cubs dugout and temporarily delaying the game. The cat eventually scooted away underneath the stands, but an alleged curse had been placed on the Cubbies, with Tom Seaver going the distance to best Chicago 7-1.

Tom Terrific's 21st victory would place the Mets only a half-game behind their Windy City rivals, with Cubs players and fans seemingly spooked by this eerie incident. This unscored NY Mets program was issued at that game and includes vintage signatures of the immortal Hall of Famer Tom Seaver, Don Clendenon, Duffy Dyer and Ed Charles. The Miracle Mets would ultimately win the division and capture their first world championship, with a myriad of both Mets and Cubs fans in agreement that the mystifying Black Cat Game was the final exclamation point for Chicago's September swoon!
