1954 Sports Illustrated First Issue - CGC 9.8
S.I. #1!!! This August 16, 1954 First Issue of Sports Illustrated is one of the finest to ever be encapsulated by CGC with a 9.8 assessment. Originally priced at an affordable $0.25, this colorful and classic magazine was one of the first weekly publications to focus solely on sports and athletics. With a bright orange "SPORTS ILLUSTRATED" header, the action image shows Milwaukee Braves slugger Eddie Mathews walloping one of his 40 dingers during his All-Star 1954 season. This 9.8 NM-MT example is striking with not a single example surpassing this highest of grades. What a wonderful addition to any sports or S.I. collection!
