(LOT 221)
Babe Ruth DOUBLE (DUAL) SIGNED Chemical Bank & Trust Co. Check Payable to Claire Ruth Dated July 2, 1945 – Includes a Note from Claire Ruth Implying This is Her Last Owned Babe Autograph PSA/DNA 9 MINT

DOUBLE-SIGNED RUTH!!! While Babe Ruth signed checks are certainly not rare, finding a DOUBLE (DUAL) SIGNED one is a painstaking chore. This cancelled Chase National Bank check has been boldly scripted "G.H. Ruth" in blue fountain pen on the front side and black ink on the verso, appropriately rewarded with the highly coveted PSA 9 MINT assessment! Payable in the amount of $100 to his wife Claire, Mrs. Ruth has likewise included her endorsement on the verso. Fully written in Ruth's right hand, other than some typical bank cancellation punch holes and scattered foxing, no glaring flaws are evident.

Of utmost significance, this lot includes a red ink handwritten note from Claire to an ardent fan of her husband, with Claire stating "Thank you for the clipping – this is the last autograph of Babe he did 18 years ago next month. – Sincerely, Claire Ruth". It certainly appears that Mrs. Ruth was gifting her last-owned autograph of her beloved husband, with simple math pinpointing Claire's note to approximately June 1963. It's no secret that the value of Ruth signed checks over the past year has soared like an ICBM missile, with some single-signed examples fetching in excess of $10,000. That said, the value of a double-signed example with bona fide provenance from Ruth's wife Claire is significantly higher. The Bambino's diamond exploits will echo for eternity, and we cannot imagine a more suitable Ruthian keepsake than one of his originally scripted checks that just happens to include not one but two "G.H. Ruth" signatures!
