(LOT 219)
1907 Detroit Tigers "Our Home Team" Foldout Style Postcard with Rookie Year Cobb

In 1907, the Detroit Tigers outlasted the Philadelphia Athletics, winning the American League pennant by a game and a half over the A's. They then fell to the Chicago Cubs in the 1907 World Series in five games. That year, 20-year-old Tigers center fielder Ty Cobb emerged as the best hitter in baseball, a moniker he would not relinquish until Ted Williams entered the game. Presented here is a 1907 Detroit Tigers "Our Home Team" Foldout Postcard, including a rookie-era Cobb. This delicate 116-year-old postcard features images of the AL champions on the foldout, including Jennings, Donnovan, Schmidt, O'Leary, Cobb Downs, Willitt, Killifer, Winter, Suggs, Jones, Summers, Thomas, McIntyre, Caughlin, Schaefer, Killian, Crawford, Mullin, Payne & Rossman, as well as the Tigers logo at the bottom. Considered one of the earliest endorsements on which Cobb appeared, this postcard remains in excellent condition for its age, showing no creasing with the player image still in pristine condition. Separation has occurred beneath the embossed flap holding the fold-out player images. Produced by the Art Post Card Co. of Detroit, this cancelled postcard is one for the Cobb collector as one of the early Georgia Peach likenesses printed.
