(LOT 90)
1889 N172 Old Judge Tim Keefe 251-5 Pitch-R/Hand Held Out Waist High-New Yorks SGC 5 EX

POP 1 N172 KEEFE!!! Presented here is a unique for the grade SGC 5 EX Tim Keefe 251-5 pose that reigns supreme on the SGC census report as the sole and highest graded example for ALL of Keefe's nine N172 Old Judge poses! PSA's population report indicates that the highest graded Keefe 251-5 "Pitch/Hand Held Out Waist High" pose (as outlined in the hobby's prestigious "Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Company" publication) is a PSA 4, placing this Keefe 251-5 marvel as the finest graded example! The pitching ace of the incredible Giant's 1888 championship team, rubber-arm Keefe throttled the Browns in the championship series by winning an astounding four games in the best of 10 series! Owner of 342 lifetime wins, Keefe was arguably the greatest 19th century pitcher, twice winning over 40 games and accumulating an amazing six consecutive 30-win seasons. Typical of most N172 examples, Keefe's hallowed image exhibits a somewhat light contrast, with some negligible black soiling on the surface. The lower border Goodwin & Company style caption indicates this card was issued in 1889, a year before Keefe would join John Montgomery Ward as two of the major players in creating the upstart 1890 Players League. Fine centering, no obtrusive flaws, and even corner wear consistent with the grade complete this 134-year-old heirloom that proudly sits alone at the top of the SGC and PSA Pop charts as the finest of its kind!
