(LOT 39)
1923 W515-1 #3 Babe Ruth Hand Cut PSA 8 NM-MT – POP 4; Only 3 PSA Examples Graded Higher!

PSA 8 RUTH!!! This miraculous PSA 8 NM-MT 1923 W515-1 #3 Babe Ruth strip card offering has been joined by only three other PSA examples, with a mere three specimens graded higher! The 1923 W515 strip card set includes 60 subjects with checklist numbers, originally offered to individuals as six separate strips, each of which included 10 cards. Most significantly, each of these classic images were taken from an original Underwood & Underwood photograph, with some of the cards revealing a copyright symbol and "U & U" caption affixed somewhere near the images frame, in this case, the lower right.

Ruth's hallowed portrait exhibits near-perfect centering between four off-white borders. Rich red and yellow hues bring the Bambino's hallowed image to life, and the manually cut edges are razor sharp. Issued during the year when Yankee Stadium first opened its doors to the public, it would be the Babe's league-leading 41 homers, 130 RBIs, and remarkable 1.309 OPS that would pace the Yankees to their inaugural world championship. That said, we cannot imagine a finer testament to Ruth's unparalleled legacy than this PSA 8 masterpiece that has stubbornly defied a century of potential wear!
