(LOT 220)
Babe Ruth DOUBLE-SIGNED Chemical Bank & Trust Co. Check – Dated November 7, 1935 – PSA Authentic/Encapsulation

DOUBLE-SIGNED RUTH!!!... While signed Babe Ruth checks are certainly not rare, finding a DOUBLE SIGNED one is an extremely painstaking chore. This cancelled Chemical Bank & Trust Company check has been eloquently scripted "G.H. Ruth" on both the front and back sides in bold blue fountain pen, revealing conservative "8" strength. Payable in the amount of $50 check to "Cash", it is clearly obvious this entire November 7, 1935 check was written in Ruth's right hand.

Signed only five months after his renowned retirement, further enhancing its desirability is its large format style with "BABE RUTH" printed sideways along the left border, with the only notable flaw being a chip along the lower left edge/border. While both "G.H. Ruth" signatures on the front and verso reflect negligible ink smudges (between the "G" and "H" on the obverse side and on both the "G" and "H" flip side autograph), a majority of these hallowed scripts are completely intact. It's no secret that the value for Ruth signed checks over the past year have soared like an ICBM Missile, with various single-signed examples now fetching well in excess of $10,000.

That said, the value for a double-signed example such as this museum worthy offering is significantly higher, with its fortunate new owner afforded the opportunity for either keeping it intact or manually cutting the check for the purpose of creating two individual Ruth autographs. No esteemed Ruth collection could possibly be complete without an original autograph of the Sultan of Swat for no ballplayer could remotely match his captivating charisma, as well as his unparalleled pitching and hitting prowess combination. Indeed, from the pitcher's rubber with the Boston Red Sox (1915-19), and from the batter's box with the New York Yankees (1920-34), he was, undoubtedly, the best of the rest, slugging his way to immortality with the Yankees. An heirloom worthy of the highest hobby accolades, this 88-year-old marvel conjures up memories of the Babe's final playing days with the Boston Braves, for it was filled out in Ruth's right hand only five months after he ultimately called it quits. The Bambino's diamond exploits will echo for eternity, and we cannot imagine a more suitable Ruthian keepsake than one of his originally scripted checks that just happens to include not one, but TWO "G.H. Ruth" signatures!
