(LOT 141)
Super Rare Lou Gehrig Signed Artwork – Measures Approx. 5" x 7" - Strikingly Similar to Gehrig's 1931 W517 Image - PSA Authentic & Encapsulation

Presented here is an ultra-rare Lou Gehrig signed artwork that has been authenticated/encapsulated by the illustrious PSA Company. Measuring approximately 5" x 7", the classic Lou Gehrig portrait illustration has been drawn in what appears to be graphite pencil. The classic portrait image is strikingly similar to Gehrig's highly coveted 1931 W517 portrait pose, with the critical black fountain pen script affixed to the left of Lou's right cheek. Revealing solid "7" strength, only a somewhat light "L" prevents a higher assessment, with the artist's name ("Wuff" Jacobsen) sketched in the lower right quadrant. The signature style indicates Gehrig signed this museum worthy masterpiece in the mid to later 1930s, justified by the "u" in Lou extending directly into the "G".

By the time this was signed by Gehrig, the Yankee captain had already established himself as baseball's premier player, with Gehrig claiming the 1934 American League Triple Crown, and Babe Ruth's declining skill sets forcing him to retire in 1935. Due to the ill effects of the deadly ALS disease that tragically claimed Gehrig's life on June 2, 1941 at the tender age of 37, signed Gehrig artifacts are few and far between, further substantiating the superior standing of this grand offering. The Iron Horse's immortal place in baseball history will forever be defined by his sanctified "Luckiest Man on the Face of the Earth" speech before a packed Yankee Stadium house on July 4, 1939; standing tall as our National Pastime's true "Gettysburg Address." That, coupled with Gehrig's steadfast leadership and remarkable diamond achievements all combine to place this unique scripted Gehrig artwork as a collectable worthy of a final resting place in any advanced autograph gathering!
