(LOT 142)
Ty Cobb Signed M114 Baseball Magazine 1916-1957 Premium – PSA Authentic/Encapsulated

From 1916 through 1957, the ultra-popular Baseball Magazine Co. issued 10" x 12" sepia-toned premiums of our National Pastime's greatest stars, distributing them to the general public in mailing tubes. Dubbed as M114 Premiums, one of the most sought-after players is the iconic Tyrus Raymond Cobb, with his premium portraying the Tiger's star in a classic batting pose. That said, presented here is one of the finest Ty Cobb signed images in the hobby, a spectacular M114 Baseball Magazine Premium, boldly signed "Ty Cobb" in the Georgia Peach's trademark army green ink. Revealing solid "8" strength, the timeless script has been affixed in the lower right quadrant, directly to the right of Cobb's period-style right cleat. While the white borders reveal a slight trim, and a number of scattered surface wrinkles are evident, no obtrusive blemishes are apparent. For full disclosure, the blank verso does include two areas of vertical white tape along the right and left edges.

Of utmost significance, the imposing Cobb batting central image that is strikingly similar to his 1912 T227 illustration has eluded any compromising flaws. A perfect testament for the immortal Cobb, any signed image of the original 1936 HOF Charter Member is extremely desirable, especially one that was first issued in 1916. Entering that 1916 campaign, Cobb had captured nine consecutive A.L. batting titles (1907-1915). After losing the 1916 batting championship to Tris Speaker, he would move on to seize three more batting titles (1917-'19), ending his remarkable career with a record-setting .366 lifetime batting mark. He could hit, throw, field, run and when necessary, hit with power, becoming baseball's first quintessential five-tool player. His legacy will truly outlast eternity, justifying why this magnificent scripted M114 Magazine Premium effectively turns back the clock to an era when the majestic Cobb dominated America's Pastime at an unparalleled level!
