(LOT 140)
Lou Gehrig Autographed 1937 Scorecard N.Y. Yankees vs. the Philadelphia Athletics – PSA LOA

The mid to late 1930s New York Yankees teams would once again dominate the Junior Circuit, with the 1936 addition of "Joltin' Joe" DiMaggio to a lineup that already included the immortal Henry Louis Gehrig, Bill Dickey and Tony Lazzeri paving the way for their success. The Bronx Bombers would claim four consecutive World Series titles from 1939-1939, spearheaded by the Yankee Clipper and Iron Horse's unparalleled batting feats. This 1937 New York Yankees four-page thick cardboard program (vs. the Connie Mack's Athletics) has been signed by none other than the legendary Gehrig, with Lou boldly scripting "Lou Gehrig" in black fountain pen directly across the Philadelphia Athletics score page. Revealing "8/9" strength, the timeless signature is a classic 1937 era Iron Horse autograph, with the "u" leading directly into the "G" in Gehrig.

At this stage of Gehrig's remarkable career, the ill effects of the deadly ALS disease was still lying dormant within Gehrig's powerful body, with Lou blasting 37 round-trippers, batting .351, and knocking in an AL leading 127 runs. It wasn't until the late summer of 1938 that Gehrig would start breaking down from ALS, ultimately leading to his premature retirement during the 1939 campaign. His passing on June 2, 1941 at the tender age of 37 left an extremely limited number of signed Gehrig artifacts versus the vast amount of scripted Babe Ruth collectibles. For this reason alone, we highly advise you to capture this seldom surfacing and eclectic signed Gehrig marvel that serves as a sheer reminder of how this ultra-powerful man stationed himself at first base for 2,130 consecutive games! - Full PSA LOA.
