(LOT 1290)
1947 Original 7" x 9" Ted Williams & Stan Musial Type 1 Wide World Photos News Service Photograph - PSA Encapsulated

Two of the purest hitters in Major League Baseball history were Boston Red Sox Ted Williams and St. Louis Cardinals Stan Musial. Between them, this duo amassed 6,284 hits, 996 home runs, 3,790 RBIs and only struck out 1,405 times. They received 43 All-Star Game nods, two Triple Crowns (both Williams), 13 batting titles and five league MVP Awards (Musial - 3/Williams - 2), and they lost a total of four years to military service. Absolutely outstanding! It's not surprising that the two became friends and were often pictured together reminiscing about their respective careers. Presented is a Wide World Photos original news service Type 1 photograph of the All-Star foes at a 1947 exhibition game. Still in amazing condition, this PSA encapsulated photo of the reigning AL and NL MVPs yucking it up displays light signs of wear with a small crease/tear at the top from the border to Williams' head, a light paging crease at the top and a paperclip mark at lower right on Musial's sock. There are no other obstructive abrasions on the front and the reverse holds a paper caption and the Wide World Photos stamping in red. Also visible is a faint date stamp "Monday Mar 17 1947".
