1945 St. Louis Cardinals 8" x 10" Type 1 Original Sporting News Contact Team Photo - PSA Encapsulated
In 1945, the St. Louis Cardinals were between World Series titles after having won the 1944 Fall Classic against the crosstown St. Louis Browns. With a 95-59-1 record in 1945, the Redbirds finished second in National League behind the Chicago Cubs. Offered is an 8" x 10" original 1945 Type 1 contact team photograph of the Cardinals from The Sporting News. This black-bordered image is marked "Sporting News - SEP 6-1945" at the upper edge. Expected aging is apparent at the edges of the black borders which display light handling wear in the form of chipping and flaking and slight corner rounding. Only the slightest ink mark is visible at center over the right shoulder of Red Barrett with no other significant surface abrasions visible. The reverse features a deep red "Property of THE SPORTING NEWS" stamp and red ballpoint notations "St. L. Cardinals 1945". Donning their home whites, this is a delightful vintage Type 1 team photograph of the Cards between titles in 1945 from the hometown Sporting News.
