(LOT 274)
1926–'29 Exhibit w/Postcard Back – Lou Gehrig - Plain Background/Green Tint (PSA Near Mint 7) – "1 of 2"; Highest Graded Example!

GEHRIG POP 1!!! Various exhibit postcards were issued between 1926 and 1929, depicting an array of different colored tints including black & white, blue, brown/sepia-toned, yellow, green, red and purple. As with virtually all of the 1920's and '30's sets, one of the set's most significant subjects is the immortal Henry Louis Gehrig. This postcard was originally issued during Gehrig's second full season, and the first campaign he would eclipse both the .300 batting average and 100 R.B.I. marks. Presented here is an absolutely remarkable PSA Near Mint 7 "Plain Background" example of this highly coveted Gehrig keepsake, that synonymous with Lou's pinnacle standing, joins a single other example as the finest of its kind! Donning his classic Yankee pinstripes, Gehrig's imposing batting image reveals a magnificent green hued surface as the "Iron Horse" prepares to wallop another one of his majestic home runs. Most significantly, this illustration was originally taken by none other than the prestigious photographer Charles M. Conlon, with the image later utilized for Gehrig's legendary 1933 Goudey subjects. A super sharp perimeter, vivid resolution, right-angled corners and a clean postcard verso complete this "best of the rest" rarity that is the perfect testament for Gehrig's unequivocal legacy!
