(LOT 273)
1928 Yuengling's #26 Lou Gehrig Ice Cream PSA 7.5 NM+

In 1928, a number of popular ice cream companies issued baseball cards with their brand products including Yuengling's, Tharp and Harrington's. Designated as F50's, the cards in this obscure 60-card set measure approximately 1-3/8" x 2-1/2" and are strikingly similar to the 1927 York Caramels and 1931 W502 issues. It comes as no surprise that the two most coveted subjects are Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, with the beloved "Iron Horse" Yuengling's offered here in an outstanding PSA NM+ 7.5 holder! The SOLE specimen at this lofty plateau, only a mere 5 examples have been graded higher on the illustrious PSA "Pop" Chart! Issued at a time when Gehrig and Ruth were wreaking havoc on their opposing pitchers to the tune of being dubbed the greatest "dynamic batting duo" in baseball history, it stands as one of the mere few Gehrig conventional sized cards issued during the 1920's.

Indeed, excluding a handful of oversized exhibit/postcard issues, this grand offering suffices as one of Gehrig's earliest baseball cards, and its hallowed assessment makes places it as a "must have" memento for any sophisticated "Iron Horse" collector. Lou's well-centered stoic portrait black & white image depicts superb contrast and clarity, encompassed by four bright white borders. No obtrusive surface blemishes are evident, and the perimeter includes four relatively sharp corners. The final superlative is the verso's critical Yuengling's Ice Cream redemption advertisement that presents itself in near-immaculate fashion. Henry Louis Gehrig truly stands as the finest 1st baseman of all-time, and synonymous with his premier diamond stature is this seldom surfacing "highest graded" offering that resides as one of his earliest mainstream issues!
