(LOT 275)
1929 R316 Kashin Publications Lou Gehrig PSA 7 NM

One of the more obscure 1920's issues is the highly coveted 1929 Kashin Publications (R316) oversized cards that measure 3-1/2" x 4-1/2". Of the 101 known subjects, as with virtually all 1920's sets, the two most popular players are Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, and it is the "Iron Horse's" magnificent R316 Kashin that is offered here in a PSA Near Mint 7 holder. Seldom surfacing in high-grade, PSA's prestigious "Pop" Chart substantiates that notion with only 4 additional examples listed at the hallowed "7" assessment, and a paltry 2 specimens graded higher! Indeed, this remarkable Gehrig keepsake has defied "father time" for the past 92 years to retain a majority of its original factory issued attributes.

The 1929 campaign would once again see baseball's finest 1st sacker answer the bell from the batter's box with Gehrig crushing 35 round-trippers and knocking in 125 runs. What makes his Kashin Publications card so special is that it reflects Charles M. Conlon's iconic Gehrig batting image that arguably stands as Lou's most imposing batting pose on any keepsake. The classic black & white image reveals near-perfect contrast and resolution, with additional highlights being relatively fine centering (with a slight partiality towards the right edge), right-angled corners and clean surfaces revealing no glaring flaws. You can literally feel Gehrig's unequivocal intensity as he dons his classic Yankee Pinstripes, awaiting a pitch that will most likely find its way towards the furthest confines of Yankee Stadium. Rarely does any Kashin subject appear with the desirable "PSA NM 7" assessment, let alone one sporting the immortal Conlon batting image of the incomparable Henry Louis Gehrig!
