The 1931 World Series would pit the Philadelphia Athletics against the St. Louis Cardinals with the Cardinals avenging their 1930 defeat by besting Connie Mack's A's in a tightly fought 7-game contest. This outstanding offering depicts some of our National Pastime's greatest stars posing for the camera before game#4 at Philadelphia's Shibe Park. Included from left to right is the immortal Babe Ruth, St; Louis manager Gabby Street, and arguably our National Pastime's two most iconic all-time managers Connie Mack and John McGraw.
The Athletics would go on to beat the Cardinals that October 6th day by a 2-0 score behind the brilliant pitching of George Earnshaw. Revealing only a diminutive upper border surface chip and some negligible stray wrinkles, the image portrays sparkling resolution and near-perfect contrast with a small notation on the verso reading; "Photo taken at World Series 10/6/31 Phila.".
