(LOT 79)
T206 Mordecai Brown "Cubs on Shirt" – Piedmont 150 Subjects/Factory 25 (PSA NM/MT 8) - "1 of 3 Piedmonts; NO Piedmonts Graded Higher!

When any high grade T206 Hall of Fame subject becomes available, the bell sounds for the right to own an exalted T206 copy. With that in mind, presented here is one of those pinnacle type T206 gems, a magnificent Mordecai Brown "Cubs on Shirt" Piedmont Cigarette PSA 8 marvel. Consider that this is one of only three Piedmont Cigarettes PSA 8s listed on the PSA "Pop" Chart with NO Piedmonts graded higher! Legendary Hall of Famer Mordecai "Three Fingered" Brown is one of baseball's greatest pitchers ever.

Brown achieved his iconic nickname when as a young farm boy he accidently stuck his hand in a corn shredder, severely cutting his index finger and paralyzing his pinky finger. Fortunately for Brown, his deformed hand eventually seemed to be the primary reason for the movement on his pitches, leading him to 239 career wins and a spectacular 2.06 lifetime E.R.A. that ranks as the 3rd best lifetime figure behind Walsh and Joss (and surprisingly better than Walter Johnson and Christy Mathewson!). Synonymous with his premier pitching status during baseball's "dead-ball" era is his astounding "Cubs on Shirt" throwing pose as Brown released another one of his virtually unhittable curveballs.

The vintage style uniform depicts the finest possible hues, with such vivid detail you nearly see the deformity of his right index finger. His iconic image is set against a brilliant yellow/green background, partly favoring the left edge between four bright white borders. Razor sharp corners/edging complete an ultra-fine perimeter and the imposing surface is free of any blemishes for one of the premier T206 Mordecai Brown tobacco cards in the hobby!
