(LOT 78)
T206 Mordecai Brown "Chicago on Shirt" – Sweet Caporal 350-460 Subjects (PSA 8) - "1 of 3 Piedmonts; Only One Piedmont Graded Higher!

The immortal Mordecai "Three Fingered" Brown will forever reside as one of the dead ball era's greatest pitchers ever. Throughout the first decade of the 20th century, he baffled hitters via the excessive movement generated on his pitchers from his deformed hand that depicted two deformed fingers via an accident as a farm boy when he inadvertently stuck his hand in a corn shredder (severely cutting his index finger and paralyzing his pinky finger). When he decided to hang up his cleats in 1916, he ended his career with an unfathomable 2.06 E.R.A., establishing himself as one of baseball's all-time hurlers.

Synonymous with his iconic pitching stature are the aesthetics of this spectacular PSA 8 "Chicago on Shirt" gem that is one of only 3 PSA encapsulated Piedmonts at this hallowed tier with only a single Piedmont example graded higher! The classic throwing pose reveals Brown releasing another one of his virtually unhittable pitches. The vintage style uniform depicts the finest possible hues, with such vivid detail you can practically see the deformity in his right index finger. His iconic image is set against a brilliant yellow/orange/green background and slightly favors the left edge between four blinding white borders.

Razor sharp corners and edging complete an ultra-fine perimeter and the imposing surface is free of any blemishes. The verso's "Sweet Caporal Cigarettes 350 – 460 Subjects" advertisement exhibits robust red print typography that is affixed to a significantly clean white surface, the final piece to a T206 Mordecai Brown puzzle that emanates world-class aesthetics!
