(LOT 783)
T206 Brown Hindu Walter Johnson "Portrait" (PSA 2) - "1 of 4 PSA Copies"; Only 2 PSA Examples Graded Higher!

Presented here is one of the highly-coveted player/ad-back T206 combos in the illustrious tobacco collecting community, a seldom surfacing PSA 2 Walter Johnson "portrait" including the obscure Brown Hindu ad back. This scant offering currently resides as one of a mere four specimens at this plateau with only two meager PSA examples graded higher! Walter Johnson's T206 portrait subject has evolved into one of the foremost T206 subjects with the typical Sweet Caporal or Piedmont versos, let alone one that reflects a "Brown Hindu" cigarette advertisement. One of baseball's five 1936 Hall of Fame charter members, Johnson is widely regarded as our National pastime's greatest pitcher ever.

His incredible 417 lifetime victories still stands tall as our National Pastime's modern day victory record with more than 25% of his wins recorded via the shutout route (110 lifetime shutouts). His unbridled stature as baseball's finest all-time pitcher makes places this scarcity as a sound testament for his iconic legacy. Carl Horner immortal portrait pose portrays a breathtaking array of rich hues, with the fine resolution, formidable contrast, sparkling yellow background and well-centered illustration all combining to emanate solid "VG" aesthetics.

No glaring surface flaws are evident on the obverse side with the even corner wear providing an eye pleasing uniformity. While we can only assume the modest stain on Brown Hindu verso accounts for the rather harsh technical assessment, most would agree the stellar visual appeal, iconic Johnson portrait image and obscure Brown Hindu ad back more than justify this "Big Train" keepsake's elite hobby stature!
