(LOT 68)
1957 Topps #25 Whitey Ford PSA 10 GEM MINT

PERFECTION!!! For all the storied past of the New York Yankees and the players that have cycled through their system, at every level, no pitcher, including Hall of Famers Red Ruffing, Mike Mussina, Lefty Gomez or Goose Gossage, can match the wins of the greatest left-handed Yankee of all time, Edward "Whitey" Ford. For 18 seasons, Whitey took the mound for the Bronx Bombers during one of the teams most successful eras which garnered him six World Series titles, a Cy Young Award in 1961, ten AL All-Star nods and a plaque in Cooperstown. Every victory on Whitey's near-two-decade-long career was produced wearing Yankee pinstripes or road grays. His 236 win is five more than Red Ruffing, and Red will likely never catch the now-91-year-old.

Whitey Ford grew up in New York, a die-hard Yankees and Joe DiMaggio fan, and in 1950, they became teammates, if only for one year. Whitey Ford was a one-of-a-kind pitcher and teammate, and 57 years after he retired, he still stands as the Yankees greatest hurler. Presented here is an equally unique and special 1957 Topps #25 Whitey Ford card, as it stands as the one and only GEM MINT 10 ever graded by PSA. Hosting pure white borders that terminate at razor sharp bloodletting corners, this perfectly framed image of Ford at delivery is undoubtedly holdered correctly. Close inspection reveals perfection across the board of this Chairman of the Board. Remarkable centering and flawless surfaces only serve to drive home how this issue appears to have just come off the printing press and will obviously elevate the finest collection to which it will be added. It is a wonder how this survived 57 years of storage, but some lucky winner will be able to add this one-of-a-kind issue to his/her collection with pride.
