1911-14 D304 Brunners Christy Mathewson PSA 3 VG - POP 1
THE BIG SIX!!! The majestic Christy Mathewson was one of the greatest pitchers to ever toe a rubber, solidified by his 373 lifetime victories, 2.13 lifetime ERA, and remarkable three shutouts in the 1905 World Series. At the height of his career, Big Six was the lord of all baseball players, justifying why this PSA 3 VG 1911-14 Brunners Bread scarcity resides as one of his highly coveted keepsakes. The sole example at this eye-pleasing plateau, it has only been bested by six PSA specimens. The immortal Matty appears as if he has just tossed another fadeaway, with the classic image of the 1936 HOF charter member encompassed by bold blue and green hues. Only a somewhat broken vertical crease extending from the upper right to lower right border as well as a negligible surface abrasion along the lower right frame prevent a higher grade. Excellent centering is complimented by even corner wear consistent with a 4 assessment, and the verso boasts a bold green Brunners advertisement. How great was Christy Mathewson? Connie Mack answered that question when after being decimated by Matty's three 1905 Fall Classic shutouts, he so eloquently stated: "Matty is the greatest pitcher I have ever seen. It was a pleasure to watch him pitch when he isn't pitching against you!"
