(LOT 148)
1922 W575-2 Autograph on Shoulder Babe Ruth PSA 2 (MK) GOOD

EARLY '20s RUTH!!! Considered extremely scarce is the highly coveted 1922 W575-2 Babe Ruth, with the baseball cards from this 40-subject set measuring 2-1/8" x 3-3/8". Distributed by the Detroit, Michigan based Kromo Gravue Photo Co., popular facsimile autographs were affixed near the player's shoulders, prompting the set to be dubbed the "Autograph on Shoulder" series. What makes these blank-backed cards extra special are their super eclectic images, with the batting pose of the incomparable George Herman Ruth only seen on a unique 1924 Detroit Tigers home schedule subject. This PSA 2 (MK) Ruth reveals the mighty Bambino completing his electrifying swing at the hallowed Polo Grounds. The "Babe Ruth – LF Yanks" facsimile signature is affixed directly beneath Ruth's right shoulder, running across his classic Yankees pinstriped flannels. The image depicts excellent contrast and clarity, with the assessment due to rounded corners and stray creases, none of which compromise the fine central image aesthetics. As a final note, the MK qualifier is due to a lightly scribbled name in pencil on the verso along with a blue ink "W-575" notation, with this ultra-elusive offering issued the year after Ruth eclipsed his 1920 single-season 54 homer record by clouting 59 dingers in 1921!
