1922 American Caramel Co. E121 "Babe" Ruth Montage SGC 2.5 GOOD+ - POP 2
THREE BAMBINO POSES!!! Presented here is the elusive 1922 E121 Photo Montage Babe Ruth in an eye-pleasing SGC 2.5 holder. One of only two examples at this plateau, it has been bested by a meager nine SGC specimens. The Bambino's early 1920s black and white caramel cards are significantly rarer than his mainstream 1933 Goudey subjects, offering greater investment potential. In the early 1920s, the American Caramel Company produced several black and white sets, with the 1922 E121 set depicting three different Ruth variations (Holding Ball; Photo Montage; Holding Bird). By 1922, the Babe propelled the game to another level via his prodigious home runs (he blasted 113 round-trippers in his first two Yankee campaigns), with this momentous Ruth boasting crystal-clear clarity, fine contrast and the lack of any glaring surface flaws. The three different poses (portrait, batting and baseball field) defy time, with the assessment due to a 1-1/4" non-obtrusive diagonal crease extending from the lower edge to the side left edge, even corner wear, and a diminutive scuff along the upper left border. A relatively clean "Series of 120" ad back is the final compliment for this undervalued Ruth keepsake issued at the height of his Yankees career!
