1953 Topps #244 Willie Mays PSA 6.5 EX-MT+
MAYS' 2ND-YEAR!!! Prior to serving nearly two years in the US Army, Willie Mays ran away with the 1951 NL Rookie of the Year, but more importantly, he gained the full faith and respect of New York Giants HOF manager Leo Durocher. Durocher considered him a superstar for his ability to hit, hit with power, run, throw and field. A five-tool player who also had charisma, the one trait that Durocher saw in Mays that put him a step above the rest. Assuring his manager that he would bat .250 while playing center field, Mays went above and beyond batting .309 with 116 home runs, 328 RBIs and 43 stolen bases, and won the 1954 NL MVP under Durocher's guidance. Offered is one of Mays' most attractive and coveted cards, the 1953 Topps #244 Willie Mays in a PSA 6.5 EX-MT+ holder. With excellent color and borders, this Mays fielding pose easily warrants the 6.5 EX-MT+ assessment and more. Good centering and a superior reverse serve to only elevate this midgrade example of arguably the greatest five-tool player ever.
