1953 Topps #244 Willie Mays PSA 7 NM
CLASSIC MAYS!!! The immortal Willie Mays played in only 34 games in 1952 on account of his military service, yet Topps still decided to issue a 1953 Mays subject, presented here in a hallowed PSA 7 holder. This highly coveted keepsake portrays the great center fielder in what appears to be his iconic basket catch fielding pose. While Mays would not play a single game in the 1953 season due to his devout armed services duty, his 1953 Topps #244 subject would give his captivated fan base immense hope for the upcoming 1954 season that would mark his glorified return and an MVP campaign. The magnificent Mays lithographic image boasts sparkling hues, with the relatively clean surface only revealing what appears to be a faint horizontal print line to the left of Willie's right knee. In typical fashion, the image is not perfectly centered, in this case favoring the lower left edges. Square corners only exhibit subtle "touching", the relatively clean borders show some diminutive discoloring, the lower right black text box has eluded any notable edge chipping, and the verso is super clean. One of the most desirable Mays cards in the hobby, this PSA 7 gem would certainly fill that glaring void in your prized Say Hey Kid collection!
