FINEST IRON HORSE!!! This extremely rare for the grade POP 2 PSA 7 NM 1941 Lou Gehrig Memorial Full Ticket just happens to join only a single other example as the finest of its kind! Two years after Gehrig's iconic July 4, 1939 Yankee Stadium "Luckiest Man on the Face of the Earth" farewell address , and only a month after his tragic passing on June 2, 1941, the Yankees scheduled a July 4, 1941 tribute to dedicate a center field monument to their courageous captain. The Bronx Bombers were scheduled to play the Athletics in a twin-bill on Independence Day, with this dedication planned to take place between games.
Unfortunately, both games were rained out, and the ceremony was rescheduled for Sunday, July 6th. Before 60,948 captivated fans, New York would sweep the Athletics in the double-header, with the Yankee Clipper extending his legendary hitting streak to 48 consecutive games (four hits in game one; two safeties in game two). This highest graded Memorial Ticket boasts outstanding eye appeal, with the classic half-bust Gehrig pose, brilliant yellow hue, clean surfaces, and somewhat square corners, all features consistent with the supreme grade. It effectively personifies all of the emotions experienced by a grief-stricken nation at the mere thought of this nationwide hero succumbing to ALS that would sadly claim the Iron Horse's life a month before his revered memorial. Indeed, tantamount to Gehrig's pinnacle all-time standing, this best of the best PSA 7 ticket stub stands tall at the top of the illustrious PSA Pop Chart!
