Extremely Rare Henry Louis Gehrig Signed Check PSA/DNA Authentic Auto
HENRY LOUIS GEHRIG SCRIPT!!! One of the rarest signed HOF artifacts is a Henry Louis Gehrig scripted check, presented here in a PSA Authentic holder. To the best of our knowledge, there are only some 10-12 known examples, with three of them found in a Gehrig Estate sale several years ago. While this particular offering does exhibit rather light black fountain pen script, the entire check was made out in Gehrig's hand, with his extremely scarce "Henry Louis Gehrig" signature clearly legible to the naked eye. This particular check was made out to the American League B.B. Club (N.Y. Yankees) in the amount of $293.70, with the verso indicating Gehrig was purchasing tickets for the 1936 World Series versus his cross-river rivals, the N.Y. Giants.
Cancelled at the prestigious Manufacturer's Trust Fund Bank, it reveals a lower left corner chip and vertical fold, with the check dated Sept 28, 1936 at the top. Gehrig was obviously buying Fall Classic tickets for his family and/or friends for the October 1st opening game played at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees would win the Series in six games, with the mighty Iron Horse belting home runs in games three and four. One of the most coveted of all signed Gehrig heirlooms, its elusive Henry Louis Gehrig signature boasts an unparalleled paucity level!
