TOBACCO MATTY!!! The iconic Christy Mathewson was the turn of the century Babe Ruth to millions of aspiring young American boys. His 373 victories are still tied with Grover Alexander for the most NL lifetime wins, and his three shutouts in the 1905 World Series against the Athletics will forever stand as baseball's all-time Fall Classic accomplishment. This, along with three consecutive 30-win seasons, all support the argument for Matty being one of baseball's premier all-time hurlers. One of Christy's most desirable cards is his 1911 T205 Gold Border subject, presented here in a stellar PSA 4.5 holder while sporting a scarcer Sovereign Cigarettes ad back. T205 cards are extremely condition sensitive due to their gold borders flaking, with this Mathewson marvel eluding any obtrusive border chipping. Portraying a classic Mathewson portrait pose, the image reveals brilliant hues and crystal-clear clarity, only modestly favoring the left edge. No glaring flaws are evident on either side, and a majority of the gold border chipping resides at the utmost corner tips. One of Matty's most coveted tobacco cards, this Big Six heirloom has managed to retain many of its original factory-issued attributes!
