1933 Goudey #207 Mel Ott "Batting" PSA 8 NM-MT – Only One PSA Example Graded Higher!
HIGH-GRADE OTT!!! Hall of Famer Mel Ott was graced with two Goudey subjects issued by this landmark bubble gum company in 1933, and it is his #207 batting version that is presented here in a magnificent PSA 8 NM-MT holder. One of only 13 meager examples at this hallowed plateau, only a sole PSA 9 specimen is graded higher! Regrading Ott's immortal legacy, until Hank Aaron and Willie Mays came along, Ott was considered the Babe Ruth of the National League, with his 511 lifetime round trippers residing as the Senior Circuit's top figure until Mays became the first National Leaguer to eclipse his mark. Over his distinguished 22-year career with the New York Giants, he posted an impressive .304 lifetime batting average and led the NL in home runs six times. Ott will always be best remembered for his high right leg kick, utilized as a timing mechanism for his unorthodox swing, leading to his uncanny power and unequivocal legacy. The sparkling batting image is flanked by a flawless red background, with the vibrant hues and crystal-clear clarity dominating the show. Most significant is the near-perfect centering between four snow-white borders, an atypical attribute for any Goudey subject. Sharp corner tips, impeccable surfaces and the verso's bold green text all combine to support the notion that this card possibly merits an even higher assessment. Yet, as most collectors would attest to, capturing a PSA 8 Mel Ott "Batting" Goudey emanating pack-fresh aesthetics is more than sufficient, and one look at this 90-year-old memento could take your breath away!
