(LOT 56)
1933 Goudey #29 Jimmie Foxx Goudey SGC 8.5 NM-MT+ – "SGC POP 2"; Highest Graded Example on the COMBINED SGC & PSA "POP" Charts!

HIGHEST GRADED "XX"!!!... Jimmie Foxx's mighty swing is displayed in quintessential fashion via this remarkable SGC 8.5 NM-MT+ 1933 Goudey offering that along with a single other SGC example, sits at the top of both the SGC and PSA Pop Charts as the foremost Foxx specimen! Ironically, the year this card was issued, Foxx would claim the American League Triple Crown by belting 48 dingers, knocking in 163 runs and posting a sensational .356 batting average with his 204 safeties. He was now the toast of the town, with the City of Brotherly Love worshiping this supernatural-like slugger who so appropriately was nicknamed "The Beast" due to his muscular physique and uncanny power. He is one of the handful of sluggers that belted a home run into Yankee Stadium's left-field upper deck, and it is fitting that the prestigious Goudey Gum Company of Cambridge, Mass. chose the classic Charles M. Conlon batting pose to represent both of his '33 Goudey subjects. Obviously, the highlight of this world-class gem, the breathtaking image provides unparalleled aesthetics as Foxx has most likely crushed another horsehide sphere towards the furthest confines of another ballpark.

He would accomplish this glorious feat 534 times in his remarkable career, and one of his greatest seasons would be 1933 when as previously stated, he claimed the American League's revered Triple Crown. His spectacular batting feats including 1,922 runs batted in (including 13 consecutive campaigns of 100+ RBIs) and a .325 lifetime batting average forever place him as one of our National Pastime's greatest all-time hitters. The inspiring Charles Conlon batting illustration literally emanates a 3D effect, ably assisted by the radiant yellow background and tranquil contrast that literally brings Double X's legendary batting pose to life. The extremely well-centered image borders on near-impossible to find 50/50 positioning, and the bright hues, vivid BIG LEAGUE CHEWING GUM caption in the bold red text box, pinpoint corners and pack-fresh surfaces all combine to substantiate the pinnacle SGC 8.5 assessment. The celebrated SGC 8.5 NM-MT+ grade on a Jimmie Foxx 90-year-old gum card should more than quench any esteemed hobbyist's collecting thirst, with this POP 2 museum worthy masterpiece proudly sharing the spotlight with only a single other specimen as the finest of its kind!
