(LOT 2210)
1927 George Sisler Signed Exhibit - BVG/Beckett Authentication

One of the tougher pre-war Hall of Fame autographs to capture on a baseball card is George Sisler, with this 1927 Green-Tint Sisler Exhibit signed "George Sisler" in blue fountain pen ink (PSA currently lists only two signed Sisler '27 Exhibits). Portraying 7/8 autograph strength, the script is situated directly beneath his jersey's "ST. LOUIS" stitching, and has been authenticated by Beckett for ironclad authenticity. While a light horizontal crease runs across the upper region and a small piece of tape is affixed along the upper edge, the critical central image aesthetics and autograph are superb.

Regarding Sisler's batting brilliance, had it not been for an Optic Nerve infection that hindered his eyesight, Sisler may have contested Cobb for the highest all-time lifetime average. He batted over .400 twice including an unfathomable .420 in 1922. Until the 21st century, he held the single season hit record with 257 hits in 1920 (a mark eventually surpassed by Ichiro Suzuki), and managed to end his career with an outstanding .340 batting average. An imposing heirloom from the pre-1930 era, it serves as a sheer reminder of George Sisler's incomparable batting prowess that ultimately led to his eternal fixture in Cooperstown, New York!
