(LOT 1273)
Scarce 1932 New York Yankees World Championship Team PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Thorne Image - Includes an Incredible 11 Hall of Famers with Ruth & Gehrig - Measures Approx. 8" x 10"

Led by the unparalleled slugging tandem of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, the 1932 Yankees would capture their fourth World Championship. Renowned manager Joe McCarthy would guide the Bronx Bombers to the American League pennant by a whopping 13 games via their 107 wins, and then annihilated the overmatched Chicago Cubs via a four-game sweep in the World Series. Of course, it was in that Fall Classic that the "Sultan of Swat" would turn the baseball world upside down when in the fifth inning of Game #3 at Wrigley Field, he "allegedly" pointed to centerfield on an 0-2 pitch and called his home run off pitcher Charlie Root. The "Called-Shot" will forever stand as one of the most celebrated events in World Series history, and while we may never truly know if Ruth did point towards centerfield and predict his mammoth homer, it is surely etched in stone as one of our National Pastime's most iconic moments. As a grand testament for that glorious 1932 campaign, presented here is a spectacular 8" x 10" PSA Type 1 Thorne photo that portrays the entire 1932 New York Yankees squad.

Obviously taken in Spring Training, the crystal clear black & white image depicts an incredible 37 individuals including the following 11 Cooperstown Inductees: Babe Ruth (standing top row - 5th from the left), Lou Gehrig, (standing second row - 2nd from the right), Tony Lazzeri (standing next to Ruth), Bill Dickey, Lefty Gomez, Red Ruffing, Herb Pennock, Earl Combs, Joe Sewell, and manager Joe McCarthy/team owner Colonel Jacob Ruppert (standing next to each other in the middle of the second row). Imagine, this world-class photo depicts eleven members of baseball's illustrious Hall of Fame including six members of the starting lineup and three starting pitchers. Remarkably, the central image has retained a majority of its original impeccable attributes, with modest flaws including a vertical scratch/crease situated along the left edge, some lower right edge chipping, a diagonal upper right corner crease and a more substantial upper left corner chip. Directly beneath the players is a "YANKEE TEAM 32" white caption as well as the standard "THORNE" diagonal white text near the lower right quadrant. The verso includes the significant "THORNE PHOTO" credit stamp, and as photo enthusiasts surely know, any Thorne illustration is highly coveted by the collecting community. An extremely scarce and significant 1932 Yankees team offering, it conjures up vivid memories of how this outstanding ball club played "heads and heels" above their competition, ultimately leading to their fourth World Series title that included the Bambino's immortal "Called-Shot" home run!
