(LOT 1274)
c.1932 Original Type 1 New York Daily News Photo of the Yankees Outfield - Ben Chapman, Earle Combs & Babe Ruth - Measures 6-1/2" x 9-1/2" - PSA Encapsulated

By 1932, the New York Yankees had already laid a foundation to become the greatest franchise in Major League Baseball history, having won seven American League pennants and four World Series titles. Babe Ruth was quite literally the player around which the franchise was built as they added Hall of Famers Bill Dickey, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Joe Sewell and Earle Combs prior to the 1932 season. In 1932, the Bronx Bombers were solid all-around and featured one of the mostly imposing outfields in the AL with Combs (cf), Ruth (rf) and Ben Chapman (lf) covering the fences.

The trio combined for 60 home runs in 1932 leading the Yanks to the title for the fourth time in nine years. Offered is an original New York Daily News Type 1 photograph of the 1932 Yankees outfield, relaxing in the dugout as they awaited game time against the Philadelphia A's at Shibe Park. This borderless 6-1/2" x 9-1/2" portrait of the threesome remains in tremendous condition with no visible flaws on the face to detract from the players preparing for battle. The reverse of this PSA encapsulated image still carries the paper caption dated "Sept. 21, 1932" with relaying the location "Shibe Park, Phila." and the players' names and positions. The listed Photographer shows "Olen", an obvious indication that this was a shot from famed New York sport photographer Bob Olen. The back also shows the Daily News Library stamp. It also shows light paper loss at the right corners as if removed from an album. Unfortunately, the Yankees lost 8-4 to the A's this day as Al Simmons, Jimmie Foxx and Eric McNair homered accounting for six RBIs. The Yankees outfield went 1-for-10.
