(LOT 1268)
1930 Original Acme Newspictures Type 1 Babe Ruth (Baker/Ruffing) News Service Photo - Measures 7" x 9" - PSA Encapsulated

Once again, Artie McGovern, personal trainer to Babe Ruth, was a success. Each off-season, McGovern whipped the overindulgent Ruth back into "playing shape" trimming down the Yankee slugger as he prepared for yet another assault American League pitchers. St. Petersburg hosted the New York Yankees for Spring Training and in 1930, as Ruth's career was winding down, his talents had yet to fade as he crushed a league-leading 49 home runs and batted .359, tied for third in the American League behind only All Simmons (.381) and teammate Lou Gehrig (.379).

At 35, an age when most players hang up the cleats, Ruth was still a menace to opposing pitchers. Presented is a fantastic in-action photo of Babe Ruth at the plate in the first spring training game notching an infield hit with opposing Boston Braves catcher, Hank Gowdy, and umpire Brick Owen looking on. This striking borderless, PSA encapsulated photo shows the Bambino in his follow through with no visible flaws apparent to detract from the image. The borders are virtually flawless with only the slightest bit of overexposure at the bottom and minimal surface issues aside from a dot or nick. None of which impede the central image. The back still holds the ACME Newspictures stamping and a paper caption outlining the game play. Dated "MAR 13 1930", this amazing 7" x 9" Type 1 photograph remains in wonderful condition, just as Ruth appears, thanks to personal trainer, Artie McGovern.
