(LOT 1244)
c.1914 St. Louis Browns Team Photo PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Palfrey Studio Photo - Measures Approx. 8" x 10"

The 1914 St. Louis Browns would continue their losing ways, finishing with a dismal 71-82 record and in fifth place in the American League; a whopping 28.5 games behind Connie Mack's pennant-winning Philadelphia Athletics. Their dismal 71-82 record was no fault of iconic manager Branch Rickey, for the Browns did not post a single player with a batting average of .300 or better. This ultra-scarce c.1914 PSA Type 1 offering reveals that St. Louis Browns team that does manage to include two legendary Cooperstown Inductees, manager Branch Rickey and shortstop Bobby Wallace who was playing in his 21st season of his renowned 25-year MLB tenure.

Interestingly enough, Rickey would post the final two official at-bats of his MLB career, with his iconic stature associated with the future 1947 signing of the immortal Jackie Robinson during his highly celebrated general manager role with Brooklyn. Measuring 8" x 10", the silver gelatin image reveals superb resolution and contrast, with the only notable blemishes being some stray creases/wrinkles as well as a surface oxidation issue near the lower left quadrant. A white texted "Copyright 1914 - PALFREY - ST. LOUIS" caption is situated in the upper right quadrant, and the blank back is relatively clean. A super obscure team photo to say the least, it includes two of our National Pastime's ultra-popular Hall of Famers, while being encapsulated by PSA for ironclad authenticity!
