Entering the 1933 campaign, Henry Louis Gehrig had established himself as one of our National Pastime's most formidable sluggers, teaming up with the incomparable Babe Ruth to form the greatest dynamic batting duo in baseball history. Having already completed eight all-star seasons, the "Iron Horse" was vying for his fifth consecutive season of tallying a .300+ batting average, walloping 30+ homers and knocking in over 100 runs. In typical fashion, Gehrig would not disappoint the "Big Apple" faithful, posting a sensational .334 average along with 32 round-trippers and 140 R.B.I.s, with the prestigious Goudey Gum Company awarding his captivated fan base two baseball card subjects (#92 & #160) from their landmark 240-card set.

This particular image was originally taken by none other than the iconic photographer Charles M. Conlon whose unparalleled use of light and shadows, as well as capturing a candid moment in time, was second to none. Emanating exceptional resolution and a rich array of sparkling hues including a brilliant powder blue background, you can literally feel the intensity radiating from Gehrig's stoic facial expression as he loads his mighty lumber in preparation of blasting another tape-measure home run towards the furthest confines of Yankee Stadium.
