1956 Willie Mays Autographed "Mays Tapes Bat" Associated Press Type 3 Wire Autographed Photo – PSA/DNA
Ever the ambassador, Willie Mays has been one of the great faces of Major League Baseball for more than seven decades. Not only did Willie mesmerize with his unmatched skills in the field and at the plate, but his willingness to interact with fans, and more specifically children, made him one of the most beloved players of his era or any other. Offered is a sweet PSA/DNA Authentic encapsulated photograph of the Say Hey Kid taping his bat in front of a 9-year-old boy at Spring Training in Phoenix, AZ in 1956. This borderless image is in excellent condition showing minimal unobtrusive creasing and abrasions near the corners and edges. Mays has boldly signed the image in blue Sharpie (9) at center as Mays chats with the star-struck youth. The reverse shows light toning and two stamps of "APR 8 1956" as well as a newspaper clipping from the Associated Press describing the "Freckled faced Terry Klindt, 9-year-old Lusk, Wyo., baseball fan, watches Willie Mays tape a bat at Phoenix, Ariz., at opening spring training session of New York Giants."
