c.1910s Rube Marquard 5" x 7" PSA/DNA Encapsulated Type 1 Paul Thompson Authentic Photograph
So many fans would balk at a photo such as this with the Hall of Fame pitcher Rube Marquard holding a bat. Although, he did pitch his entire career in the National League, so NL purists who despise the DH would love it. During the early-1910s, Marquard played second fiddle to Giants' ace Christy Mathewson though he did lead the National League in 1912 with 26 wins. Prior to his 1911 season, managers John McGraw and Wilbert Robinson (Brooklyn) took the lefty side-arm pitcher and adjusted his delivery to an over the top motion leading to his success. Offered is a 5" x 7" borderless photograph with sharp edges and visible surface abrasions. The back presents "PHOTO BY PAUL THOMPSON. N.Y. stamp and the photographer's pencil notation "Marquard, NY Nat." Minor toning and light smudges on the reverse.
