(LOT 293)
Rare 1914 B18 Blanket Marty Cavanaugh "Red Infield"

The offered 1914 B18 Blanket is a super rare example featuring Marty Cavanaugh (Kavanagh) against a "red infield" background. "Red Infield" B18 blankets are the rarest of the rare and extremely difficult to find in high-grade condition. In his rookie campaign of 1914, Marty Cavanaugh (Kavanagh) played second base for the Ty Cobb-led Detroit Tigers, but only spent five seasons with three teams in the Major Leagues. However, he is forever immortalized on a B18 blanket, and more significantly a scarce "red infield" example. The offered blanket remains in fantastic condition with no visible flaws aside from the slightest thread separation at the upper left corner. After more than 107 years, the colors remain vibrant and rich with the fielding Cavanaugh against a bold red infield backdrop. An absolutely remarkably preserved fragile and rare memory of Dead Ball era baseball!
