(LOT 291)
1914 B18 Blanket Joe Jackson
Offered is Joe Jackson with purple pennants, one of the most desirable examples from the sought-after B18 Blankets set from 1914. The 5-1/4" squared "flannel baseball card" blankets were originally intended to be sewn into quilts, bed covers, pillowcases and the likes, thereby earning the "blankets" name. Key to this assembly was Joe Jackson, Chicago White Sox's hitting legend. The offered blanket is absolutely magnificent with a single tread separation at the lower left corner. For more than a century, the purple and green and brown colors remain brilliant and Jackson's fielding image is pristine. The purple CLEVELAND and A.L. pennants on either side of the Shoeless Joe still gleam with color against a snow-white background. As one of the rarer sets offered from the Dead Ball era, especially in mint condition, the B18 set is still highly attractive and key "cards" like Joe Jackson are at the top of the most discriminate collectors list. This is a beauty of a blanket!
