(LOT 44)
1888 Old Judge N173 Cabinet Tim Keefe - "251-5; Pitch, R/Hand Held Out Waist High" (SGC 4 VG/EX) - "1 of 2"; Only 2 Graded Higher on the Combined SGC & PSA "Pop" Charts!

In 1888, Hall of Fame New York Giants pitcher Tim Keefe won the pitching Triple Crown, the same year Goodwin & Co. began issuing the N173 Old Judge set, following the success of the N172 set of tobacco cards, released in 1887. The 4-1/4" x 6-1/2" cabinet premiums of more than 500 ballplayers form the National, Western and American Leagues, were available through a mail in, coupon redemption promotion. "Smiling Tim" was immortalized with 20 different poses in the Old Judge cabinet run! This encapsulated and graded SGC 4 VG/EX is check listed as Keefe "pitching, with his right hand waist high, and "Keefe, P. New York's." scripted at his feet. A small, solitary watermark is visible at the lower edge. Very clean, the reverse displays slight wear consistent with 130 years of storage.
