Exceedingly Rare Nile Kinnick Signed Photo Postcard PSA/DNA Encapsulated
A gentleman, scholar and gifted athlete, Nile Kinnick is considered by many as one of the best college football players ever! As a halfback for the Iowa Hawkeyes in 1939, he led them to a 6-1-1 mark. More amazing are the records he set that still stand today. Kinnick was involved with 107 of the 130 points that Iowa scored that season and played 402 of a possible 420 minutes. That year he was honored with virtually every major award in the country including the Walter Camp Award, Maxwell Award, Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year (beating out Joe DiMaggio & Joe Louis); Big Ten MVP and was a consensus first All-American as well as winning the Heisman Trophy. He was considering the NFL after his final year of College, but decided to join the naval reserves.
Sadly, his life was cut short during a routine training flight off the coast of Venezuela. He dies at 24, his body was never recovered. Considered one of the scarcest autographs in the hobby, there are only 20 known to exist. This 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" card with an unused "Postcard" design on the revers, has undergone careful professional restoration to sublimate cracks in the photograph. Offered in overall VG-EX condition, this is an exceptional memento of the Iowa Heisman honoree, showcasing a high-quality rendering of his very rare signature. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
