1928 Babe Ruth Holding Bat for Citizens Military Training Camps - PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Underwood & Underwood Photo - Measures Approx. 7" x 9"
This magnificent 1928 image portrays the "Sultan of Swat" donning his classic Yankees flannels as he presents one of his autographed colossal-sized bats to two members of the War Department (F. Trubee Davison-Asst. Secretary of War on the left; Col. Charles Burton Robbins-Asst. Secretary of War on the right). In typical Ruthian fashion, he has signed a myriad of balls and bats for these two gentlemen, who in turn will offer them as prizes to a vast number of young aspiring athletes attending the ultra-popular 51 "Citizens Military Training Camps"/CMTC located across the country. It is no secret that Ruth had a "soft spot" for virtually all of his young admirers, with this genuine love for America's youth stemming from his enrollment into St. Mary's Orphanage in 1902 at the tender age of 7. This ultra-scarce PSA Type 1 offering portrays the Bambino revealing his on-going archetypal behavior with respect to accommodating any group of young avid fans as he shows off one of the bats he has signed to these two significant War Department individuals.

The relatively clean surface has eluded any glaring flaws, emulating superior resolution and a somewhat darker toned contrast. The final exclamation points are the Underwood & Underwood credit stamp as well as the critical caption that reads as follows: "BABE RUTH AUTOGRPAHS BATS AND BALLS FOR C.M.T.C. ATHLETES - Babe Ruth, the well know home run king, today autographed a number of baseballs and bats which are to be offered as prizes by the War Department for the outstanding athletes at the 51 C.M.T.C. Camps this summer. Left to right: F. Trubee Davison-Asst. Secretary of War, Babe Ruth, Col. Charles Burton Robbins-Asst. Secretary of War." Issued on July 2, 1928, only three months later, the Yankees would once again win the American League Pennant and sweep the St. Louis Cardinals in four straight games to claim their second consecutive World Series title!
