1941 Babe Ruth & Ty Cobb ACME Newspictures Type 1 Photo - Measures Approx. 6" x 7-1/2" – PSA Type 1 Encapsulation
The "Sultan of Swat" may have bested the "Georgia Peach" in the home run column, but in a Summer 1941 golf event played for the benefit of United Service Organizations, Cobb bested Ruth in third and decisive golf match on July 29, 1941. This 8" x 10" ACME NESWSPICTURES Type 1 offering portrays Ruth raising Cobb's golf club to commemorate the former Tiger star's victory in outstanding fashion. The extremely eclectic illustration depicts these two iconic stars both revealing candid smiles, an ultra-rare concept since it is near-impossible to find these "larger than life" legends posing in any illustrations. The obverse side surface is relatively clean, and no glaring blemishes are evident. The verso includes a significant 7/30/41 caption outlining the events of this obscure artifact, with an ACME NEWSPICTIRES credit stamp situated beneath the caption. Although long retired, seldom does an opportunity surface to capture these two 1936 Hall of Fame charter members on a single image, justifying why any photo enthusiast should strongly pursue placing the final bid!
