1933 Lou Gehrig & Earl Combs Type 1 World Wide Photos Image - Measures Approx. 7" x 9" - PSA Type I Encapsulation
By 1933, the "Iron Horse" was closing in on surpassing Everett Scott's all-time 1,307 consecutive game mark. This 1933 photo portrays Gehrig shaking hands with fellow HOF teammate Earl Combs before a 1933 regular season game. Measuring approximately 7" x 9", you can literally feel Lou's good-natured persona via his soft candid smile as the future Cooperstown inductees grasp right hands. The surface is relatively intact with only a few diminutive wrinkles barely visible to the naked eye, and the verso includes the classic World Wide Photos credit stamp as well as a partial caption detailing the vents of this 1933 image. As the baseball community is fully aware of, Gehrig would easily go on to surpass Scott's record and move on to accumulate 2,130 consecutive games.

This streak stood tall for 56 years until Baltimore's Cal Ripken Jr. surpassed it on September 6, 1995, eventually augmenting the new record to an unfathomable 2,632 consecutive games. Sad to say, Gehrig's streak still holds an immense melancholy sentiment for it was the tragic ALS disease that ultimately caused Gehrig to step down and retire, eventually claiming his life on June 2, 1941 at the tender age of 37 (only 17 days short of his 38th birthday). A superb artifact, it serves as a steadfast reminder of how the incredibly brave "Iron House" succumbed to a tragic illness that stood as the sole barrier preventing his consecutive game streak to last for a seemingly infinite number of games!
