(LOT 665)
1927 New York Yankees Players Incl. Babe Ruth & Miller Huggins - Original Type I Underwood & Underwood Photo – Measures Approx. 8" x 10" – PSA Type I Encapsulation

Arguably the greatest team in baseball history is the 1927 New York Yankees, led by the "Sultan of Swat's" 60 home runs and "Murderer's Row" of Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Meusel and Combs. The Yankees would win a staggering 110 games against only 44 loses to the tune of an incredible .710 winning percentage, eventually claiming their second world championship by sweeping the Pirates in an uncontested four games. Along with the aforementioned sluggers, spearheading this juggernaut was a steady pitching staff led by Herb Pennock and Wait Hoyt, with their Hall of Fame manager Miller Huggins paving the way. Presented here is a magnificent 8" x 10" black & white Type I photo depicting five of the legendary cogs for this "machine-like" club including from left to right: Hoyt, Ruth, Huggins, Meusel, and Shawkey.

Depicting the finest imaginable clarity and contrast, the image is magnificent, with three "FILE COPY – DO NOT REMOVE" embossments slightly evident across the upper horizontal region (these embossments were utilized on many of the photos issued by Underwood & Underwood). No obtrusive blemishes are evident on the critical central image; however, some modest chipping is situated along the upper right edge. The verso reveals the highly-coveted caption outlining the photo's details and several Underwood & Underwood stampings, with the illustration taken directly after the Yankees clinched their second consecutive American League pennant. A bona-fide 1927 collectible, it conjures up vivid memories for an era when the Yankees dominated our National Pastime at an unparalleled level!
