(LOT 652)
1934 Jimmie Foxx & Babe Didrikson Meet at the Athletics Fort Meyers, FL Spring Training Site – International News Type 1 Photo - Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8-1/2" – PSA Type 1 Encapsulation

On March 19, 1934, female athletic star "Babe" Didrikson would be invited to the Philadelphia Athletics Fort Meyers, FL. Spring training site to pitch the first inning against the Brooklyn Dodgers! Incredible as it may seem, Didrikson toes the rubber in the top of the first, and allowed the first two batters to reach base safely. Even more unfathomable was the next batter hitting into a Triple Play, bailing out the female "Babe" who immediately retired from her ultra-brief MLB pitching career after that unforgettable first inning. This outstanding International News Type 1 offering depicts Didrikson in a candid moment at Fort Meyers with Athletics star first sacker Jimmie Foxx as "XX", his renowned nickname" reveals his classic batting grip to the then 22-year old wonder woman.

Baseball enthusiasts surely know that Foxx stands as one our National Pastime's greatest all-time right-handed batters, with his 536 round-trippers and 13 consecutive seasons of batting in 100 or more runs substantiating that notion. Regarding Didrikson, her solidified stature as being one of the greatest female athletes ever is justified by her profound excellence in golf, basketball, baseball and track& field. She claimed two Olympic track & field gold medals and 10 LPGA major championships in golf, strongly supporting her world-class stature. Fine contrast and resolution, no glaring blemishes, excellent centering, and a relatively clean image surface all contribute to the extraordinary eye appeal, with the final exclamation point being the ultra-detailed caption on the verso that elaborates on Didrikson's momentous pitching endeavor!
