T206 Cy Young Portrait "Piedmont 150 Subjects/Factory 25" (PSA NM 7)
Along with the T206 Ty Cobbs, among the most coveted of all the ATC subjects is the highly prestigious Cy Young "portrait" specimen that is presented here in a spectacular PSA 7 holder. PSA's illustrious population report currently reveals only two other "Piedmont" specimens at the near-mint plateau with only 4 graded higher! Indeed, a revered high-grade Cy Young portrait T206 is one of the most exalted cards in the hobby, carrying a prestige and value so few cardboard keepsakes could ever hope to attain.
Cy Young is the legendary author of arguably baseball's most unbreakable record of 511 lifetime victories, justifying why baseball chose his name to represent the annual pitching excellence award. His "Cy" nickname was achieved early in his career when one of his fastball blew past a catcher and shattered a nearby fence, prompting a newspaper reporter to compare Young's fastball to a destructive "Cyclone"! Obviously, the nickname stuck, with Young referred to as "Cy" the remainder of his incomparable career.
The iconic Carl Horner portrait image on this timeless marvel continues to emanate a majority of its original stellar attributes including fine centering, brilliant facial tints, a bold green background and bright white borders. The corners have retained a majority of their original right-angle formations and the surfaces reveal no glaring blemishes. The final superlative is the bold midnight blue Piedmont 150 Subjects verso, with this magnificent Cy Young heirloom destined for a final resting place in one of the hobby's most sophisticated T206 compilations!
