Synonymous with Ty Cobb's irrefutable .366 highest lifetime batting average is this breathtaking PSA 8 Domino Disk (PX7) offering that stands ALONE as the finest of its kind! No vintage hobbyist questions the prominent desirability of early 20th century Ty Cobb collectibles, with the "Georgia Peach" irrefutably regarded as one of baseball's greatest all-time players. From the moment Cobb stepped onto a baseball field, he began his assault on opposing pitchers at a level rarely seen before or after his legendary playing days. Many of his cigarette related cardboard treasures are held with the utmost esteem, and one of Cobb's more obscure & highly coveted tobacco artifacts is his Domino Disk issue, especially when it resides as the highest graded copy. As an added superlative, this offering excludes the "D" on the Detroit Tigers Cap, with PSA's "pop" chart indicating only 39% of the total 46 graded Cobb Sweet Caporal Domino Disks reflecting this more obscure variation.

Before the emergence of the popular Sweet Caporal Pins that were issued in 1910, Sweet Caporal Cigarette products began issuing "Domino Disks" (PX7's) with their various tobacco brand products. Distributed between 1909 and 1912, the disks measure approximately 1-1/8" in diameter and include a circular cardboard baseball player representation framed by a medal rim. Currently, some 129 different players are known to exist with their obverse side portrait images reflecting ether red, blue or a green background. Their revered name was obtained via the two dominos that are affixed to the reverse side (with the "DOMINO" text appearing directly above). Similar to virtually all of the tobacco and candy sets issued between 1909 and 1912, the Ty Cobb subject reigns supreme as the most coveted and valuable subject in the set.

Cobb earned this distinction via his dominance in the batter's box with his unprecedented string of 9 consecutive batting titles from 1907 thru 1915, and 12 in a 13-year stretch a seemingly un-breakable record. Comparable to his uncontested batting prowess is this spectacular Domino Disk representation of the Tiger's superstar portraying a crystal clear black & white portrait image of the fiery Tiger's outfielder that is affixed to a seemingly flawless rich red setting. As previously mentioned, the "D" on his illustrious Detroit Tigers cap just happens to be missing, placing this as the more eclectic variation.

The cardboard disk is framed by a fine metal rim that is completely intact, and the vivid white typography on the obverse side clearly reads: "SWEET CAPORAL CIGARETTES" and "DETROIT TIGERS". Across his period style jersey in jet black print reads "TY" COBB", with negligible oxidation found along the metal. The final stamp of approval is the flipside's bold and vivid white "DOMINO" text and dice set against a super clean red background.
